Copyright Page Requirements for UK Authors
Use this context after the tool output so the result matches the market you are publishing into.
UK copyright protection is entirely automatic under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. There is no copyright registration system in the UK — your work is protected from the moment it's created. The © notice on your copyright page serves as public notice of your ownership but is not legally required for protection.
UK copyright lasts for the life of the author plus 70 years. The standard notice format is the same internationally: © [Year] [Author Name]. UK authors should note that moral rights (the right to be identified as the author and the right to object to derogatory treatment) must be asserted — add 'The right of [Author Name] to be identified as the author of this work has been asserted in accordance with the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.'
ISBNs in the UK are managed by Nielsen. A single ISBN costs around £89, or £164 for a pack of 10 — significantly cheaper than US Bowker prices. Each format requires its own ISBN. List all ISBNs on your copyright page: 'ISBN 978-x-xxxxx-xxx-x (Paperback)' and 'ISBN 978-x-xxxxx-xxx-x (eBook)'.
UK authors publishing through both Amazon.co.uk and IngramSpark (for Gardners and UK bookshop distribution) should ensure their copyright page meets both platforms' expectations. IngramSpark requires ISBNs; KDP does not. Including ISBNs is recommended for all UK-published books.
For UK fiction authors, the 'work of fiction' disclaimer is standard practice. UK defamation law is more plaintiff-friendly than US law, making the disclaimer particularly important for British authors writing fiction set in real locations or involving real events.
