Digital Marketer (Paid Ads)

Run Google, Meta and Amazon Ads — for HMD Publishing and for our author clients — and be judged on what the spend brings back.

We are not looking for someone to launch campaigns and send a monthly report full of impressions. We are looking for someone who treats every pound of ad spend as a decision they will be asked to defend.

HMD Publishing has taken more than 10,000 books to market for authors in 47 countries. That means two kinds of advertising. There is our own: Google Search and Meta campaigns that bring authors to us for editing, formatting, cover design and publishing. And there is our clients': authors who hire us to sell their books, mostly through Amazon Ads, with Meta and Google where they fit the book.

You will run both. On our side, you will own the accounts end to end — structure, keywords, audiences, bids, budgets, creative briefs and conversion tracking — and you will be measured on cost per lead and on how many of those leads become paying clients. On the client side, you will manage a roster of author campaigns, keep each one inside its agreed budget, and write the report that tells the author, in plain English, what their money did and what you are changing next.

You will work with our designers and video editor on creative, so you are not making every ad yourself, but you will decide what gets made and what gets switched off.

This role is fully remote and open worldwide, with a few hours of overlap with the UK team each day.

To apply, send your CV and one or two examples of accounts you have personally run — Google, Meta or Amazon. Tell us the spend, the result before, the result after, and what you changed. Screenshots with client names blurred are fine.

What you'll do

  • Plan, launch and optimise HMD Publishing's own Google Ads and Meta Ads campaigns to bring in author leads
  • Manage Amazon Ads (Sponsored Products, Brands and Display) for a roster of author clients, alongside Meta and Google campaigns where they suit the book
  • Keep every client account inside its agreed monthly budget, and flag early when one is going to over- or under-spend
  • Own conversion tracking — make sure every lead and sale is actually recorded before a campaign is judged on it

  • Brief designers and the video editor on ad creative, and decide which ads to scale and which to switch off
  • Write clear monthly reports for each client: what was spent, what it returned, and what changes next
  • Track cost per lead, ACoS and ROAS weekly and act on them rather than just reporting them

What we're looking for

  • Hands-on experience running paid campaigns with your own hands on the controls — not only overseeing someone else
  • Proven results on at least two of Google Ads, Meta Ads and Amazon Ads, with numbers you can show us
  • Strong grasp of the metrics that matter: CPC, CPA, cost per lead, ACoS, ROAS, and why a cheap click can still be a bad one
  • Experience setting up and checking conversion tracking (Google Tag, Meta Pixel / Conversions API, or similar)

  • Ability to manage several client accounts at once without any of them being forgotten
  • Clear written English — you will be explaining results directly to authors in the UK, US and beyond
  • Comfortable being measured on results, and having access to the numbers that do the measuring

Nice to have

None of these are required. They are the things that would make you stand out.

  • Amazon KDP / book advertising experience specifically
  • Familiarity with Publisher Rocket, Helium 10 or similar keyword tools
  • Google Ads or Meta Blueprint certification
  • Experience with GA4 and Google Tag Manager

  • Background in publishing, creative services or an agency
