KDP Reports Explained: How to Read Your Sales, Royalties and KENP

KDP Reports is where Amazon shows your orders, estimated royalties and Kindle Edition Normalized Pages (KENP) read and listened. The hub lives at kdpreports.amazon.com, and every view has its own update rhythm — so a blank Dashboard at breakfast is not the same as a missing payment.

This post walks through each report Amazon lists on the KDP Reports help page, what it is for, and how often the data refreshes. Figures below are Amazon's own cadences (checked 6 November 2026), not earnings tips and not forecasts.

Key takeaways#

  • Open kdpreports.amazon.com (or Reports in your KDP bookshelf) for Dashboard, Orders, KENP, Promotions, Pre-orders, Month-to-Date, Prior Month's Royalties, Royalties Estimator and Payments.
  • Dashboard refreshes about every 15 minutes; eBook and Kindle+ orders usually land within 24 hours of the order, print within 24 hours of ship, and KENP on the Dashboard can take 24–48 hours.
  • Monthly KENP figures can still move and are finalised near the 15th of the following month; the dedicated KENP Report updates on that same near-15th cadence.
  • Royalties Estimator numbers will not match what you are paid — Amazon says so plainly — so treat Prior Month's Royalties and Payments as the source of truth for settled money.
  • Payments update about 60 days after the end of the sales month (about 90 days for Expanded Distribution), once you meet the minimum threshold for your payment method.

Where to find KDP Reports#

From your KDP account, open Reports, or go straight to kdpreports.amazon.com. The left-hand menu lists each report and statement. You can filter most views, compare up to ten books on Orders, Royalties Estimator and KENP Read, and download the reports Amazon marks as downloadable.

Order totals on graphs use the marketplace time zone where the order was recorded (for example GMT for Amazon.co.uk). KENP read or listened is calculated in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Expanded Distribution data is slower: Amazon says it updates about 90 days after the end of the month following the month in which a sale was reported.

If you want a live pulse, use Dashboard or Orders. If you want settled money, use Prior Month's Royalties and Payments. If you want Kindle+ page reads, use the KENP Report and wait for the near-15th final — do not argue with yesterday's Dashboard total.

Dashboard#

The Dashboard is the overview: today's top-earning books, estimated royalties, orders, and KENP pages read and listened, plus top formats and marketplaces for the month. You also get a 30-day trendline of orders and KENP so you can spot shape, not just a single day.

Amazon updates the Dashboard page about every 15 minutes. eBook and Kindle+ orders typically appear within 24 hours of the order. Print book orders appear within 24 hours after the order ships. The running KENP total on the Dashboard can take 24–48 hours to catch up. Monthly KENP numbers may still change and are finalised near the 15th of the following month. The Dashboard is downloadable.

Orders#

The Orders report shows processed book orders across formats, and placed orders for eBooks. You can compare up to ten books at a time. On screen, ASINs that share a title name are combined into one row (the cover image is picked at random from that set); the downloaded file breaks orders out by ASIN.

Amazon treats an eBook as processed after the customer's payment is confirmed, and a print book as processed after it ships. Not every placed order is processed. Processing can take up to 24 hours for eBooks and up to a few days for print. The report is downloadable.

KENP Report (Kindle+ borrows)#

KENP means Kindle Edition Normalized Pages — Amazon's page unit for pages read and listened when a customer borrows your book through Kindle+. In the reports UI, Amazon now labels that borrow programme as Kindle+. If you are enrolled in KDP Select, those borrows are what feed KENP; whether KDP Select is worth it is a separate choice from learning to read the report.

The KENP Report shows royalties from Kindle+ for KENP read and listened. Amazon updates this report near the 15th of every month, and monthly KENP figures may change until they are finalised around that date. It is downloadable. Amazon does not publish a fixed per-page rate in the Reports overview — the Global Fund and page rate are announced separately — so this post does not invent either number.

Promotions#

The Promotions report tracks Kindle Countdown Deals. You can filter by marketplace, title and promotion status. Amazon updates it about every 15 minutes. It is not downloadable.

Pre-orders#

Pre-orders shows units ordered for titles you have set up as pre-order. It updates about every 15 minutes and is downloadable.

Month-to-Date#

Month-to-Date covers unit sales transactions and KENP read for the current or prior month. As with other KENP views, monthly KENP can still move until it is finalised near the 15th of the following month. Processing rules match Orders: eBooks after payment confirmation, print after ship. This view is not downloadable.

Prior Month's Royalties#

Prior Month's Royalties is your royalties by month. For prior months Amazon applies the exchange rate from the last day of the month. The report updates near the 15th of every month and is downloadable. When you need settled royalty figures rather than a live estimate, start here (alongside Payments).

Royalties Estimator#

The Royalties Estimator shows estimated royalties from eBook, hardcover and paperback sales in a single currency (hardcover publishing is not supported on kdp.amazon.co.jp). Amazon is explicit: the exchange rate at payment time will differ, so the estimate will not exactly match what you are paid.

For Kindle+, the chart also estimates royalties from KENP pages read or listened before the KDP Select Global Fund is announced. That line is only an estimate and will not match actual earnings. Amazon tells you to use Prior Month's Royalties and the Payments report for actuals.

Expect estimated royalties to update within 24 to 48 hours, because royalties appear only after a payment is recorded. The Estimator is downloadable.

Payments#

Payments lists payouts by sales period. You can filter by marketplace and payment status. Currency exchange rates use the last day of the month; for the current month Amazon uses the prior month's rate. This report updates 60 days after the end of the month in which the sale was reported, and it is downloadable.

Separately, Amazon's payment-timing help says royalties are paid every month, about 60 days after the end of the sales month (about 90 days for Expanded Distribution), once you meet the minimum threshold for your method. Direct deposit often shows in 1–5 business days after the payment date (longer in some countries); wires and cheques take longer. Thresholds and methods vary by marketplace — check Amazon's current payment-options page for your bank location rather than memorising a table from a blog.

How to read the numbers without fooling yourself#

A few habits keep Reports useful:

  1. 1Match the report to the question. "Did anyone buy today?" → Dashboard / Orders. "How many KU pages this month?" → KENP (and wait for the near-15th final). "What will hit my bank?" → Prior Month's Royalties + Payments, not the Estimator.
  2. 2Expect lag. Print waits for ship. KENP on the Dashboard can trail by a day or two. Monthly KENP is not locked until mid-month.
  3. 3Do not treat estimates as invoices. Amazon states that Estimator figures will not match paid royalties.
  4. 4Keep Author Central separate. Reports answer sales and royalty questions; your public author page is a different tool — see how to set up Amazon Author Central when you need that side of the account.

When you want help turning reports into an ads plan#

Once you can read Dashboard, Orders and KENP without second-guessing the lag, the next question is usually whether paid traffic is worth testing. HMD Book Growth is done-for-you Amazon and Meta ads for books, bought monthly on the website: Amazon Engine at £297/month ($377) for Amazon ads on one series or up to three books, Reader Engine at £597/month ($797) for Amazon plus Meta on up to two series or six books, and Full Reach at £997/month ($1,297) for Amazon plus Meta across more titles and stores. There is no setup fee and no percentage of ad spend; you pay ad spend direct to the platforms, and there are no sales guarantees. We start with a free Ads Readiness Check so the book page and per-format break-even are reviewed before any ad money is spent. Details and packages are on book marketing.

KENP stands for Kindle Edition Normalized Pages. It is Amazon's page unit for pages read and listened when a customer borrows your book through Kindle+ (Amazon's current label in reports for that borrow programme). Monthly KENP can change until it is finalised near the 15th of the following month.
Amazon says the exchange rate at payment time differs from the estimator, and Kindle+ lines before the Global Fund is announced are estimates only. Use Prior Month's Royalties and the Payments report for actual earnings.
Amazon pays royalties about 60 days after the end of the month in which the sale was reported (about 90 days for Expanded Distribution), once you meet the minimum threshold for your payment method. The Payments report itself updates on that ~60-day cadence.
The Dashboard refreshes about every 15 minutes. eBook and Kindle+ orders usually appear within 24 hours of the order; print within 24 hours of ship; KENP on the Dashboard can take 24–48 hours.
Amazon lists Dashboard, Orders, KENP Report, Pre-orders, Prior Month's Royalties, Royalties Estimator and Payments as downloadable. Promotions and Month-to-Date are not downloadable.
Go to kdpreports.amazon.com or choose Reports from the top of your KDP account. Use the left-hand menu to switch between Dashboard, Orders, KENP and the other views.
